Antonio Anderson hit two free throws as Memphis got by Texas A&M on Thursday to advance to the Elite Eight. Anderson went to the line after being fouled at the end of the game when Memphis had missed three shots. "When I got to the line I could see we were tired and deep down so was the other team. I just wanted to get the game over with," said Anderson, "I missed free throws earlier, but I had the confidence I could knock them down." The Tigers have been one of the nation's worst free throw-shooting teams all season but they survived. Memphis has won 25 straight games and gets to now face top-seeded Ohio State, an 85-84 winner over Tennessee. "We all play like we have a chip on our shoulder, and we've been playing like that since early in the year," Memphis guard Douglas-Roberts said. "Now we're winning in the NCAA tournament and we're playing all the elite people and we're still winning."

UCLA and their suffocating defense will take on the explosive Kansas Jayhawks in an Elite Eight matchup on Saturday. Ben Howland has stressed defense for UCLA and it is working. The style ended up knocking out Pittsburgh 64-55 Thursday night. "It starts with our coach," point guard Darren Collison said. "He emphasizes defense all year long and we showed it pays to be physical." SBG Global reports that the gambling public does not feel that UCLA will be able to suffocate Kansas with most early betting on the Jay Hawks laying the points.
Aaron Afflalo made all 10 of his free throws and UCLA shot 23-for-26 from the line, scoring 12 of its final 18 points on foul shots in the win against Pittsburgh. "We did a great job to knock down free throws, and it's a good thing we did because we weren't scoring a lot," forward Josh Shipp said. "I think we're just getting down to business and focusing on free throws."

The Bruins now play Kansas in Saturday's regional final in a matchup of two superb teams. The top-seeded Jayhawks beat Southern Illinois 61-58 in the first game in San Jose on Thursday. Brandon Rush and his Kansas teammates dug down deep but got the win. Rush scored 12 points without missing a shot. "It shows that we can win whatever the circumstances are," said Kansas guard Mario Chalmers, "Everyone knows we like an up tempo game in the 80s, but we can take our time and slow it down with the best of them, too."
“Somebody had to step up down the stretch and make a good play, and I'm glad I did," Rush said.
